1. Be committed to the process- bring a positive attitude to the mediation sessions.
  2. Gather all financial information/important documents as soon as possible and be prepared for mediation session.
  3. Listen- to the mediator; to your spouse.
  4. Be respectful.
  5. Ask questions- make sure you understand what is being discussed and how that impacts you.
  6. Make your wishes, desires, and feelings known.
  7. Stand up for yourself in negotiations- be firm but not irrational.
  8. Know you don’t have to agree to everything that the other side wants.
  9. Review documents closely.

Don’t rush it- Know that people move at different paces- you want everything finished immediately while the other side needs more time to come to terms with everything or vice versa.
